Mike Miller

Mike Miller has helped local and regional governments work at the federal level for over 38 years, first as congressional staff member, then as a land use attorney, and for over 25 years as a federal lobbyist and partner at TFG.

Mike has extensive experience dealing with large and politically complex federal projects including transportation and water infrastructure, economic development, public safety, and land use and planning. Mike’s larger projects include interstate freeway widening, large bridge construction, wastewater and recycling facilities and systems. Mike has also helped client secure funding for law enforcement technology, and market surveys and other planning assistance to improve local and regional economies. During his career on Capitol Hill and as a lobbyist, Mike has worked with virtually every federal agency directly or indirectly relevant to the interests of his local and regional government clients. Mike leads TFG’s transportation and infrastructure newsletters – Transportation Notes and Infrastructure Update – and has spoken at numerous conferences regarding infrastructure, the federal budget process, and federal advocacy for local and regional governments.

Before joining TFG, Mike served as counsel to U.S. Representative Robert T. Matsui, focusing on transportation, flood control, water resources and infrastructure, economic development, public building construction, military base closure and reuse, and environmental issues. Mike also practiced land use and environmental law in California and is an active member of the State Bar of California.

Mike received his B.A. with High Honors from the University of California, his law degree from the College of William & Mary in Virginia, and his Master of Laws from the University of the Pacific. Mike was also selected as a Lyndon Baines Johnson Congressional Intern in Washington while an undergraduate.

ICMA Scholarship Named in Honor of TFG Founder, William Ferguson, Jr.

As TFG CEO for over 30 years, William Ferguson, Jr. launched the full tuition scholarship for ICMA members in 2011.

TFG is proud to offer a scholarship for the Harvard Kennedy School Senior Executives in Local Government Program to an ICMA member. Named in honor of TFG founder, William Ferguson, Jr., the William Ferguson, Jr. Scholarship covers the full $17,400 program fee.
