TFG helped make the case for bringing $2.5 million in funds to support high-level training for employed and unemployed workers in occupations where skill shortages exist.

Issue Overview: 

TFG worked with the Capital Area Workforce Development Board, which serves Wake and Johnston Counties in North Carolina, to secure $2.5 million in competitive H-1B Technical Skills Training grant funds from the Department of Labor.

Result: 

The two-year grant was used to provide high-level training for employed and unemployed workers in occupations where skill shortages exist. The initiatives served to assist local businesses and more than 400 individuals, focusing on information technology and biotechnology. The application was a collaborative effort of Wake and Johnston County governments, Wake Technical Community College, Johnston Community College, Triangle area businesses/chambers of commerce, and local and state JobLink Career Center partners, bringing the total investment to nearly $4 million.
