The Ferguson Group, LLC (TFG), headquartered in Washington, DC, is a bipartisan government relations consulting firm. We represent the largest number of local governments of any firm in Washington, D.C. TFG offers a unique internship program allowing dedicated individuals the opportunity to learn and work directly with the firm’s lobbying team on a wide variety of substantive issues. Our areas of expertise include federal grant funding, water resources, community and economic development, environmental issues, land use, transportation, and housing.
TFG’s Internship Program is different from other internships in numerous ways. Our entrepreneurial work environment provides the space and opportunity for independent, responsible self-starters to gain experience in government relations while contributing to our firm’s projects and advocacy efforts. TFG partners specialize in a wide variety of issue areas, and understand the gamut of perspectives from Capitol Hill to local municipalities. We create a challenging and interesting experience for our interns. Yet, our "small firm" environment enables an intern to experience a range of policy issues common to the federal government.
The TFG Internship Program is seeking a Research Intern to assist firm lobbyists and staff on short-term to medium-length projects. Daily assignments often include: researching and tracking federal legislation; searching previous and current appropriations bills for critical information; locating grant opportunities for municipal government and nonprofit clients; assisting with public relations by compiling information for TFG's website, database, and business proposals; attending congressional and industry hearings and briefings; and writing blog posts, summaries and memorandums. Research Interns will also be responsible for contributing to research and written content for technical reports on economic development planning, grant proposals, demographic analysis, environmental issues, and related subjects.
Preferred candidates will have earned a Masters Degree in political science, public policy, economics, environmental sciences, or related disciplines. Candidates with Bachelors of Arts or Science degrees in the same disciplines will be considered if the candidate has extensive research experience. All candidates must have strong writing and verbal skills and have an interest in government relations. Work performed by a TFG Research Intern requires that the successful candidate be an academically-inclined quick learner who enjoys, and is proficient at, in-depth research. Candidates should also be interested in learning about grants and the grant writing process. A background in economics, environmental issues, water issues and/or grant writing is strongly desired. Proficiency in Microsoft suite programs, Adobe, and internet applications is necessary.
We prefer serious applicants able to intern forty hours a week. Compensation is based on an hourly rate of $10 to $12 an hour depending on experience.
If you are interested in TFG’s internship program please send your resume and a cover letter to email@example.com and indicate your availability. The subject line of your email should contain the words "research intern candidate."
