Position Overview

The Ferguson Group (TFG) is a bipartisan government relations consulting firm headquartered in Washington, DC, that represents the largest number of local governments and public agencies of any firm in Washington. We are searching for a knowledgeable and experienced Grants Specialist who is interested in working with a fast-paced, dynamic team to manage clients, create funding strategies and develop competitive grant funding proposals that support critical projects in communities across the country. This position can be based in Washington D.C. or remotely throughout the United States.

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Grants Specialist to join the TFG Grants Team as a vital contributor to the grant writing and administration process. The ideal candidate will be a collaborative team player with a fervent dedication to TFG’s mission. They will possess a comprehensive understanding of the intricacies of grant research, writing, and management, coupled with the ability to navigate diverse funding landscapes with finesse. Furthermore, proficiency in project management is paramount, ensuring the seamless execution of grant applications from conception to completion. Responsibilities

Overall, the Grants Specialist will play a crucial role in securing funding through the successful identification, application, and management of grants. This individual will work closely with clients, internal team members, and outside consultants to ensure compliance with grant requirements and deadlines, while also contributing to the development and implementation of grant strategies to support TFG’s mission and objectives. The primary responsibility of the Grant Specialist will revolve around Project Management, with potential additional tasks assigned as necessary, including those pertaining to client management. Responsibilities of the Grants Specialist will include, but are not limited to, the following:

Project Management

  • Utilize project management principles to plan, organize, and execute grant-related initiatives effectively.
  • Develop project timelines, milestones, and deliverables to ensure timely completion of grant-funded activities.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to assign tasks, track progress, and address any issues or challenges that arise during project implementation.
  • Monitor project budgets and expenditures, ensuring alignment with grant guidelines and funding restrictions.
  • Communicate regularly with clients and client manager to provide updates on grant progress, address inquiries, and solicit feedback.
  • Ensure timely and accurate response to client inquiries, requests for information, and reporting requirements.
  • Prepare regular progress reports and updates for clients and client managers, highlighting achievements, challenges, and opportunities for improvement.

Specialty Focus

In addition to Project Management responsibilities, the Grant Specialist could be called upon to work on specific client projects and firm initiatives within one or more of the following specialty areas:

Grant Research and Identification

  • Conduct thorough research to identify potential grant opportunities aligned with the organization's programs and initiatives.
  • Evaluate eligibility criteria and requirements for each grant opportunity to determine strategic fit.
  • Maintain a comprehensive database of potential funding sources and regularly update information on available grants.

Grant Application Development

  • Collaborate with program managers and other stakeholders to develop compelling grant proposals that effectively communicate the organization's mission, goals, and impact.
  • Write and edit grant proposals, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and alignment with grant guidelines.
  • Coordinate with finance and other departments to gather necessary information and supporting documents for grant applications.
  • Grant Application and Submission:
  • Manage the grant application process, including timely submission of applications and required supplementary materials.
  • Monitor application status and communicate with grantors as needed to address questions or provide additional information.
  • Ensure compliance with all grant requirements and deadlines.

Grant Management and Post-Award Reporting

  • Develop and implement systems for tracking grant funds, expenditures, and reporting deadlines.
  • Work closely with finance and program teams to ensure proper allocation and utilization of grant funds.
  • Prepare and submit accurate and timely grant reports, documenting program outcomes, and financial expenditures.
  • Experience in grant compliance and regulatory oversight.
  • Stay abreast of changes in grant regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory and reporting requirements for each grant.
  • Maintain organized records of grant-related documents and correspondence.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Arts or Science in political science, public policy, public administration, economics, English, history, environmental sciences, urban planning, or related disciplines.
  • Preferred candidates will be working towards or have earned an MA/MPA/MPP or related disciplines.
  • Must be available to work full-time.
  • Proven experience in grant writing, grant management, or project management. Experience working with local governments, public agencies, or special districts preferred.
  • Strong understanding of project management methodologies and tools, with the ability to apply them to grant-funded initiatives.
  • Experience uploading and submitting grants, including all required forms and background documents, through grants.gov and other federal platforms.
  • Detail-oriented, with a commitment to accuracy and data integrity.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders, fostering a cooperative and results-oriented work environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and persuasively.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines effectively.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and project management tools and software.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think strategically and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
