reach, we are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Accountant to join our
team. This key leadership position will play a pivotal role in optimizing our
business processes, enhancing operational efficiency, and ensuring seamless
execution of all finance activities within the organization. This position can
be based in Washington, D.C. or remotely throughout the United States;
preference is for DC-based.
Position Overview:
The Senior Accountant will: ensure that all accounting allocations
are appropriately made and documented; perform cash management functions and
oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash disbursements, payroll and
bank reconciliation functions. Establish
and execute internal controls over the company’s accounting and financial
procedures; coordinate with external tax accountants for income tax preparation
and auditors who prepare internal audits of the company; responsible for all
banking and finance activities. Negotiate lines of credit and vendor
agreements; review all financial contracts, financing agreements and insurance
policies. Maintain relationship with bank and outside CPA firm. Review of CPA
firm-prepared annual statements and tax returns. Provide accurate and
comprehensive financial information to executive management for long-term
financial strategizing; coordinate all financial planning functions with
business operations. Financial reporting duties include preparing financial
statements, cash flow reports, budgets, budget-to-actuals and financial
projections.
Typical duties include but are not limited to:
- Process accounts payable and accounts receivable;
- Prepare quarterly tax filings;
- Perform month-end closings;
- Track fixed assets and prepare depreciation schedules;
- Prepare the trial balance;
- Reconcile sub-ledger to general ledger account balances;
- Assure corporate income tax compliance to ensure accurate
and timely completion of all corporate income tax returns;
- Assess internal controls, including risk assessments and
reviews of risk areas;
- Perform monthly balance sheet, income statement and changes
in financial position/budget variance analyses;
- Assist in the design and preparation of budgets for review
by management;
- Maintain and reconcile fixed assets schedules;
- Supervise accounting staff;
- Responsibility for all aspects of partner and staff payroll;
requires automated payroll systems knowledge:
- Reconcile payroll sub-ledger to the general ledger ;
- Remit taxes and governmental reporting;
- Prepare monthly, quarterly and year-end payroll statements;
- Handle partner tax payment issues;
- Function as 401k plan administrator; manage all withholdings
and transmittals.
- Review general ledger accounts and correct journal entries;
- Perform account analysis and reconciliation, including bank
statements and intercompany general ledger accounts;
- Maintain the general ledger chart of accounts;
- Conduct initial internal control evaluations;
- Post monthly, quarterly and yearly accruals;
- Responsible for employee commuter benefit account including
submitting order, ACH processing, and preparation of journal entries;
- Oversee expense and travel reports and company credit card
reconciliation;
- Oversee all financials for a small, non-profit entity and
report at annual meeting;
- Manage petty cash account;
- Track time and billing, prepare monthly retainer, hourly and
expense invoices;
- Responsible for the filing of annual sale taxes and personal
property taxes.
- Report weekly to the Management Committee on the following:
- Semi-monthly reports on aged A/R;
- Weekly report on line of credit use and prepare trend
analysis;
- Quarterly net new business report;
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills and Abilities Required:
Strong general ledger, accounts payable, accounts
receivable, payroll, income tax and professional services firm working
knowledge. Must be very computer
friendly and knowledgeable in Sage Intacct, Inova, QuickBooks, Microsoft Excel
and Word. Must be proficient in
spreadsheet design that is often complex. Must possess strong communication
skills, attention to accuracy, and ability to interact effectively with all
personnel and vendors. Should possess
solid communication, organizational and analytical skills.
Education/Experience Required:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting. Must have at least four years of hands-on
accounting managerial experience in a similar environment. Experience in a CPA
firm highly desirable but not required. Salary commensurate with experience.
