We are seeking a talented and experienced Associate to join our network of federal advocates and consultants. This position's contributions are critical to helping our clients achieve federal priorities and objectives. Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct daily research to collect, record, analyze,
and evaluate congressional and federal agency news and updates.
- Assist in preparation of presentations and
project-related topics including legislative updates, weekly highlights of
congressional and agency activity, and weekly schedules for congressional
hearings and markups. Draft hearing
memos, letters of support, and other communication, as required.
- Work in Microsoft
Excel to create worksheets, fact sheets, graphs, and reports on research to
synthesize findings for client review.
- Synthesize larger documents such as bills, amendments,
and budgets.
- Create documents for client utilization on the Hill.
- Research bills and create legislative trackers of
bills of interest pertaining to specific clients or issue areas.
- Interact with congressional staff and agencies on
behalf of clients.
- Assist Lobbyists
and Director of Grant Services with grant research for specific client
projects.
- Requires
above-average analytical and organizational skills and the flexibility to
handle multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Ability to work
collaboratively on firm-wide initiatives, and with individual clients.
- Requires the
ability to work under stress, with interruptions and deadlines, and the ability
to frequently face deadlines paying attention to detail to complete tasks and
required documentation in a timely manner. Requires demonstrated ability to be
organized and flexible in an environment which requires continuous monitoring
of priorities.
- Requires
excellent writing skills, including experience writing memos and bill
summaries.
- Requires above
average interpersonal skills for interaction with clients, Congress, and
federal agencies.
Minimum Qualifications:
Two
or more years with Hill, agency, local or state government or equivalent required. Experience writing and editing
logical and detailed reports/memos; experience with legislative research
software (Bloomberg, FiscalNote, etc.). Ability to interact effectively and
professionally with TFG personnel, outside contacts, and clients. Ability to
multitask and balance a diverse workload of differing priorities and project
lengths. Establish/maintain collaborative working relationships with Firm
lobbying and consulting staff. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Education:
Graduation
from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in government
relations, political science or related field. Master’s degree highly
desirable.
Skills:
Proficiency
with Microsoft Office Suite programs; basic knowledge of federal, state, and
local government legislative processes; political process; ability to use
Congress.gov, FiscalNote, QuickBase, and other political resources/databases.
