Health Care & Social Services

TFG is committed to helping local government creatively and effectively address challenges and create opportunities in the area of health and human services. TFG provides strategic counsel in working effectively with federal stakeholders to reduce regulatory burdens and to establish partnerships resulting in service delivery in a successful and compassionate manner. While many health care policy challenges stem from decisions made by state legislatures and state health and human services agencies, targeted engagement with relevant federal agencies – including the Departments of Housing and Urban Development and Veteran Affairs – have resulted in positive outcomes for citizens served by our clients.

Client Successes

El Paso County, CO

In 2017, TFG collaborated with County staff and officials on a $614,736 grant from USDA’s FY 2017 SNAP Process and Technology Improvement Grants program for the Automating SNAP Assistance Programs (ASAP). The implementation of ASAP will improve the quality and efficiency to determine SNAP eligibility. Along with offering strategic advice on the formation of the project and the development of the grant application, TFG helped secure letters of support from five members of Colorado’s Congressional delegation.

Bladen County, NC

Four County Electric Membership Cooperatives located in Southeastern North Carolina worked with TFG to apply to the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Economic Development Loan and Grant Program (REDLG). They secured a $300,000 grant to match with $60,000 to offer zero-interest loan funding to purchase medical equipment and furniture needed to furnish a new healthcare clinic’s six examination rooms and the waiting room. The funds also purchased necessary equipment, including x-ray and ultrasound systems, to provide obstetrics and gynecology services. Bladen Healthcare, LLC is partnering with Bladen’s Bloomin’Agri Industry, the county’s non-profit economic development entity, to redevelop a currently vacant building into a new healthcare facility. The project secured USDA Rural Development financing to purchase a former restaurant, and grant funding from the NC Rural Center and the Golden LEAF Foundation, to retrofit and repair the building for conversion into a healthcare clinic.

Nassau University Medical Center

On behalf of Nassau University Medical Center, TFG focused on the relocation of Veterans health care services to the NUMC campus, extending the moratorium on CMS proposed DSH regulations, graduate medical education payment limitations, SCHIP expansion, reducing Medicare physician payment cuts, and extending 340B prescription drug benefit to inpatient settings.
