Case Studies

National Association of Towns and Townships

An update to the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices included a provision requiring state and local governments to replace warning and ground-mounted guide signs with signs meeting a minimum retroreflectivity standard. The change triggered significant costs to local governments. Working on behalf of the National Association of Towns and Townships, TFG led successful efforts to eliminate these requirements. Ultimately, the U.S. Department of Transportation changed the rule to require a minimum retroreflectivity standard for replacing signs only when those signs reach the end of their useful life.

R3 Water Partners

The R3 Water Partners, comprised of the City of Roseville, the City of Folsom, and the San Juan Water District in California, banded together to present a uniform regional approach on water supply. The nearly fifteen year partnership has generated a variety of successes for the region including advocating for the use of forecast based operations at Folsom Reservoir and the implementation of modern watershed monitoring technologies in the American River watershed and creating a specific authority under the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to enhance water supply delivery infrastructure in the region.

Manufacturing Alliance of Communities

Working on behalf of the Manufacturing Alliance of Communities (MAC), TFG has successfully advocated for several major policy victories, from the creation of "manufacturing hubs" supported by the Obama Administration to the expansion of federal resources to revitalize and build infrastructure. The MAC is also the visionary behind the Revitalizing Auto Communities Environmental Response ("RACER") Trust, the third largest holder of industrial property in America and the largest environmental response and remediation trust in U.S. history, with over $700 million in assets.
